Uncover the mysteries of The Secret Gardens – at Dusk

The Secret Gardens of Sandwich never fail to reveal something new to visitors.

However, as dusk descends, there’s a whole new atmosphere of magic and mystery – not to mention an entirely different array of sounds and scents, as the flora and fauna relax and settle down for the night.

On August 27,28 and 29, the Gardens are hosting an exclusive series of Dusk Tours for visitors, who can enjoy a glass of wine as they enjoy a guided tour of these magnificent and lovingly-restored gardens, by Head Gardener Steve Edney and his highly-skilled team.

After the daily hustle and bustle has ended, the gates to the Gardens will re-open at 5.30pm for guests to chat and enjoy a drink on the terrace before starting their tour at 6.45pm.

Steve and his team will be sharing their enthusiasm and expertise with visitors who are free to ask questions as they wend their way through the delightful beds and borders, now at their finest following the completion of the 200-ft long Long Border, planted using Gertrude Jekyll’s own planting plan for her home at Munstead Wood in Surrey.

The Secret Gardens of Sandwich lay unseen for almost a quarter of a century and have been lovingly restored at a cost of more than £2 million by the present owners, Dominic and Stephanie Parker.

The Secret Gardens are open seven days a week, throughout the year. From now until September 30, opening hours are from 10am to 5pm, closing at 4pm from October through to December.
